Afterschool Site Director

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Afterschool Director, this individual is responsible for the overall successful operation of the on-site Afterschool Program.  Through managing staff, implementing age appropriate activities, and positively interacting with children, parents, and families, the Site Director will model and promote the four core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. By providing these services the Site Director is committed and obligated to practice confidentiality and to protect any PHI (personal health information) at all times.

Position Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Must be at least 20 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma
  • Must be sensitive and mature
  • Able to meet and greet the public in a professional manner
  • Able to relate well with both children and adults
  • Current 1st Aid and CPR certifications are a plus (can train on the job)
  • Needs personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for program community
  • Must have one of the following:
    • Written documentation from or on file with the NH Department of Health and Human Services that she or he was qualified and employed as a site director in a school-age program before 2017
    • A minimum of an associate’s degree in child development, education, recreation, or other field of student focused on children
    • Certification of successful completion of training as a recreation director plus 1000 hours experience working with children in a licensed child care program, recreation program or a public or private elementary school
    • A total of 12 credits in child development, education, recreation, or other field of study focused on children, from a regionally accredited college plus 1000 hours of experience working with children
    • Current certification as an educator by the department of education
    • Experience working with children totaling 2000 hours and the following:
      • Current certification as a para II educator by the department of education; or
      • Both of the following:
        • Documentation of enrollment in a course for at least 3 credits in child development, education, recreation, or other field of study focused on children, through a regionally accredited college or university and a written plan on file for completion of at least 3 additional credits as specified; and
        • Within 12 months of the date the individual begins working as a site director, documentation of successful completion of a total of at least 6 credits as specified in above shall be on file for review by the department
Position Responsibilities:
  • Interact with each child daily- greet each child as they walk in the door; engage in conversation throughout the afternoon
  • Positively lead and teach children in an age appropriate manner, facilitating and encouraging peer interaction
  • Listen and respond to the wants, concerns, and needs of each child
  • Ensure the safety of every child and gain knowledge of their individual needs via medical records or conversation with authorized personnel
  • Adhere to discipline policy as outlined in the Afterschool Staff Manual
  • Plan, organize and present a regular rotation of activities with at least one new activity daily, which coincides with the daily/weekly theme
    • Be sure to change activities appropriately to keep children engaged
    • This includes: gross and fine motor games (examples: jump roping and knitting), craft projects, table top games and activities
    • This should include outdoor activities daily
