Dartmouth College Child Care Center- Assistant Director

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director with the overall operation of the Center including meeting the needs of families and assisting with program, curriculum, enrollment, staff hiring and supervision, and office functions.

Position Responsibilities:

Key Accountabilities
Staffing and Supervision
Oversees center-wide staffing patterns and ensures proper teacher-child ratio
Conducts orientation for new staff
Participates in staff supervision, evaluation, and professional development
Participates in interview and hiring for regular teaching positions
Interviews and hires temporary staff
Consults with individual teachers and teaching teams as needed

Classroom and Curriculum
With Director, develops and oversees the center’s curriculum and early education program
With Director, develops and implements the center’s child assessment system
Oversees and evaluates classrooms and acts as a resource to teaching teams
Works with teaching staff to adapt programming to meet the needs of individual children and their families

Office and Center Administration
May develop and convene Center committees
Reports concerns to the Director and assists with issue resolution
Ensures that child care licensing standards are met
Acts on behalf of the Director in his/her absence and by request

Family Relations
Assists with orientation of new children and families
Consults with staff to meet families’ needs
Assists with communication with families including newsletter and web postings
Serves as a point of contact for the Center, requiring knowledge of center policies and procedures
